I, Werewolf – Ripped to Pieces [Single, 2021]

Pernahkah anda dengar nama I, Werewolf? Saya pun. Unit Metalcore KL ini baru saja mengeluarkan single terkini mereka yang berjudul Ripped to Pieces melalui Dude Records.

Tak banyak yang saya dapat korek tentang mereka kecuali I, Werewolf ditunjangi oleh dua individu iaitu Fendi dan Farid. Enough about that, let’s talk about the music. Ripped to Pieces sounds suspiciously like it was conceived during the peak of Metalcore/ Post Hardcore boom circa 2008-2011. Pertama sekali, saya dapat vibe Black Veil Brides dan Avenged Sevenfold yang cukup kuat. Obviously, vokal clean dan scream Fendi seakan kembar kepada Andy Biersack dan suspiciously macam Nash Muhandes (ni Metalcore dudes mesti kenal). Kedua, some catchy riffs here and there, yang staple kalau berasal dari scene Metalcore era 2008-2011. Saya boleh bayang kalau mereka keluar zaman tu dan perform di One Cafe, mesti berterabur tulang belakang crowd nak layan dalam pit. Kualiti rakaman yang decent, walaupun saya suspect drum terlalu clean (could be programmed or sampled) yang cukup elok untuk mendemonstrasikan kemampuan mereka untuk buktikan Metalcore era kemuncak belum mati. Ripped to Pieces belum mampu dijadikan kayu ukur untuk judge mereka good or bad, cuma boleh memberi indication yang they should not slip under your radar. But hey, saya rasa Ripped to Pieces cukup catchy untuk saya kembali dengar semula selepas 2 atau 3 hari, I think that is good enough.
