Eternal Rot – Cadaverine (Full Length, 2018)

I used to listen to Doom/Death Metal few years back. But my palette was restricted to more accessible (I’m using accessible term very lightly here) kind such as My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and the likes. But nothing prepared me for Eternal Rot’s Cadaverine.

Cadaverine offers 4 tracks, all enveloped in sludgy, crawling pace. The gurgly vocals and low tuned, almost no variation in guitar riffings together with simplistic drum machine echo an uneasy feeling of dread and despair. To some, Cadaverine’s snail pace dynamics might turn them off.

I feel Cadaverine is a weird release to take in due to this. I was like, damn brother, it feels distant and cold! Almost like a group of zombies been let loose playing chugging Doom/Death for 30 minutes. For some weird reason, it reminded me of Blut Aus Nord’s MoRT which feels surreal, rotting and formless in many ways (the little variation in guitar department definitely contribute to this). That in turn make Cadaverine a disturbing and feels possessed. Shit, I don’t even know what I’m talking about. Cadaverine is heavy and almost lacking in progression, but who needs progression when you can go low as fuck, yeah? Personally, it’s not a release that I would listen on daily basis but rather at times when boredom struck I will definitely spin this and forget everything else.

For fans of Autopsy, Hooded Menace and Funebrarum.

Cadaverine out 17th September 2018 via Godz ov War.
